Insurance Verified. Appointment Booked. One Call.
Callura's AI virtual assistant checks a caller's insurance eligibility in real time and books the appointment in the same phone call, so new patients get an answer before they hang up and your front desk starts the day with verified bookings.
Most insurance tools verify before the appointment. Callura verifies while the patient is still on the phone.

How insurance verification works on the call
The caller asks
"Do you take my insurance?" is one of the first questions new patients ask. Callura answers it instead of promising a callback.
Callura collects the details
Insurance company, member ID, subscriber name and date of birth, in a natural back-and-forth.
It checks coverage in real time
Callura sends a standard eligibility request (270/271) through Stedi, a HIPAA-compliant clearinghouse connected to 1,000+ insurers, and reads the answer in seconds.
It books the right appointment
Callura explains what it found in plain language, offers two times, books into your PMS and texts a confirmation. The result is saved for your team.
What Callura checks
On every call
- Active coverage on the date of the visit, plus plan dates.
- The plan and insurer on file.
- Whether the plan is one your practice accepts, based on the plan list you set at onboarding.
With the benefits add-on
- Annual deductible and how much is left to meet.
- Coinsurance and copays.
- The plan's annual maximum.
Benefit details come from the insurer's eligibility response and vary by plan. Dental insurers don't reliably return waiting periods, frequency limits or missing-tooth clauses, so Callura leaves those to your team.
When coverage can't be confirmed
Insurance verification is only useful if the result changes what happens next. If a plan is inactive, isn't one your practice accepts, or the insurer can't confirm coverage on the call, Callura books the visit by your practice's rules and leaves your team a note to follow up. Nothing is promised that your front desk hasn't approved, and an eligibility check is never presented as a cost estimate.

Frequently asked questions
Can an AI virtual assistant verify insurance during a phone call?
Yes. Callura checks a caller's insurance eligibility in real time and books the appointment in the same call, so the patient gets an answer before hanging up.
How does Callura check insurance eligibility?
Callura sends a standard electronic eligibility request (270/271) to the patient's insurer through Stedi, a HIPAA-compliant healthcare clearinghouse, and reads the response during the call, usually in seconds.
What does the patient need to provide?
Their insurance company, member ID, and the subscriber's name and date of birth. Callura asks for each one naturally during the call.
Which insurance companies does it work with?
Callura checks eligibility through Stedi, which connects to more than 1,000 insurers, including Delta Dental, Guardian, MetLife, Aetna Dental and Cigna Dental. If an insurer can't confirm coverage on the call, Callura books by your rules and leaves your team a note.
Does insurance verification tell the patient what their visit will cost?
No. An eligibility check confirms coverage information. It isn't a treatment estimate or a guarantee of payment, and Callura says so when patients ask about cost.
What happens if coverage is inactive or the plan isn't one you accept?
Callura books the visit at your practice's discretion and leaves your team a note to follow up, so no patient is turned away on the call.
Is insurance verification HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Callura offers a BAA and protects insurance details with the same safeguards as all patient information, including AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.2 in transit.
Does it work with my practice management system?
Yes. Callura works with a wide range of PMSs, including Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Denticon and NexHealth, and saves the result there. If yours isn't listed, ask us.
