Which AI Voice Agents Book Directly Into Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft and Denticon? (2026)

Callura
Callura

It's 7:42 PM. A new patient calls your office, and the AI on the line says, "You're all set for Thursday at 10."

The next morning, your front desk opens Dentrix. Thursday at 10 is empty.

The booking went into a separate calendar, or a request queue, or an email. Someone now has to retype it, call the patient to confirm, and hope Thursday at 10 is still open. That's the gap between an AI that integrates with your practice management software and one that actually books in it.

Short answer: we checked 10 AI voice agents' own sites in October 2026. Four say they book, reschedule and cancel in all four systems (Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft and Denticon) during the call: Callura, Arini, VoxHealth and Dentina. Many others read your schedule, send booking requests for staff to confirm, or rely on a third-party sync. Ask every vendor to book a test appointment on a live demo, then check your PMS.

"Integrates with Dentrix" can mean four different things

We've sat through a lot of demos with practice owners, and this is the word that causes the most confusion. When a vendor says it integrates with your PMS, it usually means one of these:

  1. Reads only. The AI can see open slots or patient records, but can't create the appointment. It takes a message.
  2. Booking requests. The AI collects a preferred time and sends a request. Your team confirms it the next day.
  3. Writes through a sync layer. The booking goes through a third-party connector that syncs with your PMS on a schedule. It works, but ask how often it syncs and what happens when two people grab the same slot.
  4. Writes live. The AI checks open slots in your PMS during the call, books the appointment while the patient is still on the line, and can reschedule or cancel it later.

Only the fourth one means your front desk walks in to a schedule that's already right.

✓ = the vendor's own site or docs say so. ✗ = not stated on the vendor's public site as of October 14, 2026. That doesn't mean the vendor can't do it, so confirm on a demo. Callura's row is ours, and our pricing isn't published yet.

  • Arini: PMS claims come from Arini's blog posts. Its insurance feature is described as collecting and confirming insurance details, not an eligibility check.
  • Viva: names Dentrix (including Ascend), Open Dental and Eaglesoft. Pricing starts at $349/month.
  • Dentina: writes back through NexHealth's Synchronizer, per a NexHealth case study. Pricing is $299/month per location, billed annually.
  • Weave: booking is "for qualified Dental PMS only", and the voice receptionist is in early access. It says it can reschedule, but cancellation isn't stated. Its BAA is published on its legal page.
  • Adit: says its AI front desk "updates your schedule in real time". The PMS names appear only in its demo form, so we didn't credit them.
  • Emitrr: books into a calendar. Its Dentrix integration page covers texting and contact sync, and the BAA is stated on its blog.
  • Smith.ai: its medical page says the service is not HIPAA-compliant. Plans start at $0 a month for 25 calls.
  • Mango Voice: integrates with all four systems for caller details and call logging. Its AI creates a callback task rather than booking.

Two more names you'll hear. NexHealth isn't an AI voice agent. It's the sync layer several voice agents use to reach your PMS. Retell AI is a platform for building voice agents. It has Dentrix and Open Dental connectors, but you or a partner build the booking yourself.

How Callura connects to your PMS

Callura is an AI virtual assistant for dental practices and med spas, often called an AI receptionist. It books, reschedules and cancels directly in Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Denticon and NexHealth, as well as Zenoti, ModMed, Vagaro and Mindbody for med spas.

  • Live slots, not a copy. With Open Dental, for example, we connect through Open Dental's own API and pull open appointment slots at the moment of the call, so the patient is offered times that are actually free.
  • Your rules, not ours. The assistant books only with the providers, operatories and appointment types your team chooses. If a new-patient exam only goes in certain columns, that's where it goes.
  • Insurance on the same call. It checks the patient's insurance eligibility while they're on the line, then books. Here's which AI voice agents verify insurance during the call.
  • Nothing new for your team. The appointment shows up in the same schedule they already use. Every call is recorded and transcribed in your Callura dashboard.

Practices are usually live in under a week, with less than two hours of their team's time. Here's what that setup looks like.

Five tests to run on any AI voice agent demo

  1. Book a real test appointment, then open your PMS and find it. If it isn't there, it's not live booking.
  2. Ask it to reschedule that appointment, then cancel it. Check the PMS after each step.
  3. Ask for a provider or location you don't offer on that day. A good assistant follows your rules instead of guessing.
  4. Ask what happens when two patients want the same slot at the same time, and how the vendor prevents double booking.
  5. Ask how it connects: the PMS's own API, a sync layer like Sikka or NexHealth, or a request queue. All can work. You just want to know which one you're buying.

Where Callura fits

We built Callura because a booking that someone has to retype in the morning isn't really a booking. Slim Dental, the largest dental practice in Manhattan, runs Callura across three locations, and it generates over $1M a year for them. We work with 50+ clinics.

If you're a practice owner who wants every call to end with a real appointment in your real schedule, without changing how your front desk works, you're exactly who we want to work with.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI receptionists integrate with Dentrix?

Several AI voice agents say they integrate with Dentrix, but not all of them book the appointment during the call. Callura books, reschedules and cancels directly in Dentrix. See the table above for what other vendors state on their sites.

Can an AI receptionist book appointments in Open Dental?

Yes. Some AI voice agents, including Callura, connect through Open Dental's API, check open slots during the call and write the appointment into the schedule. Others only read the schedule or send booking requests for staff to confirm.

Does an AI receptionist work with Eaglesoft and Denticon?

Some do. Callura books, reschedules and cancels in both. Many AI receptionists list Eaglesoft or Denticon as integrations without saying whether they write appointments, so ask for a live test booking.

What's the difference between a PMS integration and real-time booking?

An integration can mean the AI only reads your schedule or sends requests. Real-time booking means the appointment is written into your PMS while the patient is still on the phone, so nobody has to re-enter it.

Do I have to change PMS to use an AI receptionist?

No. Callura is built on top of the PMS and workflow you already use. It books into the same schedule your team works from and follows the same rules.
