Best AI Voice Agents That Verify Insurance and Book in One Call (2026)

Callura

“Do you take my insurance?” is one of the first questions a new patient asks. Most practices answer it with a callback. A growing number of AI voice agents claim they can check coverage while the patient is still on the phone and then book the visit. We make one of them, Callura, so instead of a ranking, here is a comparison built only from what each company says on its own website.

An AI voice agent that verifies insurance in one call collects the caller’s insurance details, runs a real-time eligibility check with the insurer, and books the appointment before the patient hangs up. Many tools marketed for insurance verification don’t do that: they check in batches before the appointment, or only collect the details for your staff.

All vendor details below come from each company’s own website as of October 2026. Features and prices change, so confirm them with each vendor before you decide.

Three ways tools handle insurance

  • Verifies during the call, then books. The agent checks eligibility in real time and books in the same conversation. The patient knows where they stand before hanging up.
  • Verifies before the appointment. Eligibility runs in batches, often a day or more ahead, and results are saved to the chart. Useful for the front desk, but the caller still waits for an answer.
  • Collects details only. The agent captures the insurer and member ID for your staff to check later.

Most “AI insurance verification” lists cover tools that call payers or check portals for your billing team. This comparison covers the other side: the agent answering the patient’s call.

Verifies during the call, then books

Callura

Callura is an AI virtual assistant for dental practices and med spas. When a caller asks about insurance, Callura collects the insurer, member ID, subscriber name and date of birth, sends a real-time eligibility request through Stedi, a HIPAA-compliant clearinghouse connected to more than 1,000 insurers, and reads the answer in seconds. It then offers two times, books into your PMS, and texts a confirmation. Every call checks active coverage and whether the plan is one your practice accepts; deductibles, coinsurance, copays and annual maximums are available with a benefits add-on when the insurer returns them. If coverage can’t be confirmed, Callura books by your rules and leaves your team a note. Callura signs BAAs, works with more than 50 clinics, and goes live in under one week. See how Callura verifies insurance during the call.

Third Voice

Third Voice is a dental AI receptionist whose headline is “Verify Insurance During the Call. Not After.” It says it collects the member ID, checks coverage “through integrated clearinghouses within seconds,” and confirms copay and benefit details before booking. It names Open Dental, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Denticon and others, signs BAAs, and lists a starting price of about $800 a month per practice.

EzMedTech

EzMedTech covers medical specialties and dental. It says it verifies eligibility, copay and deductible “while the patient is still on the line,” with most checks finishing in under 60 seconds, using the clinic’s own payer credentials across 300+ payers. It lists 40+ EHR and PMS integrations, including Epic, athenahealth, Dentrix and Open Dental, and signs a BAA with every practice. Pricing isn’t published.

IVAI

IVAI offers real-time eligibility checks during the call through Availity and Change Healthcare and books into Epic, eClinicalWorks, Jane and Google Calendar. Published plans run from $219 to $759 a month plus an integration fee. It describes itself as “HIPAA certified”; there is no official HIPAA certification, so ask for the signed BAA, which IVAI says it executes with every healthcare client.

Steer Health (Luna)

Steer Health’s Luna answers calls for health systems and medical groups, verifies benefits, and books into the EHR, with eligibility checked “before the visit is booked.” It names Epic, Oracle Health and athenahealth and states HIPAA compliance, SOC 2 and BAAs. Pricing is performance-based and not published.

Amazon Connect Health

Amazon’s healthcare contact-center agents can check eligibility and copay before confirming an appointment, but it is an optional feature you build: your team writes the integration and connects your own eligibility vendor. A fit for health systems with engineering resources rather than a single practice.

Verifies before the appointment

Weave

Weave verifies insurance “ahead of their appointments,” using bots that log into dental payer portals, and writes detailed results, including frequency limits and remaining benefits, back to the chart. Its AI receptionist books in real time, but its page doesn’t describe an insurance check during the call. Plans start at $199 a month.

Adit

Adit runs verifications “based on schedule” before appointments and posts results to the patient file. Its AI front desk books “based on the insurances you accept.” Pricing isn’t published, and Adit promotes insurance verification as free for life.

Dental Intelligence

Dental Intelligence verifies in the background “prior to their appointments,” in bulk or per patient. Its AI receptionist confirms whether an insurance is in or out of network and schedules for verified patients.

Collects details only

Arini

Arini’s dental AI receptionist knows a practice’s accepted plans and answers insurance questions, and it books appointments. Insurance verification appears on its published roadmap rather than as a current feature.

What a live check can and can’t tell you

Real-time checks use the standard electronic eligibility exchange (270/271). Insurers reliably return active coverage, plan dates, deductibles, coinsurance, copays and, for dental plans, benefit maximums. They rarely return the provider’s network status, and dental insurers don’t reliably return waiting periods, frequency limits or missing-tooth clauses. That’s why portal-based tools like Weave’s can return more detail before the visit, and why a good on-call agent decides “in network” from the plans your practice accepts. An eligibility check is never a cost estimate.

Questions to ask every vendor

  1. Does the check happen while the patient is on the phone, or later?
  2. Which clearinghouse or method do you use, and how many insurers does it cover?
  3. What exactly does the caller hear when coverage is active, inactive, or can’t be confirmed?
  4. Where is the result saved: our PMS, your dashboard, or both?
  5. Will you sign a BAA?

Frequently asked questions

Which AI voice agents verify insurance during the call?

Of the tools compared here, Callura, Third Voice, EzMedTech and IVAI say they verify eligibility in real time during the call and then book. Steer Health says it checks before the visit is booked, and Amazon Connect Health offers it as an optional feature you build.

Can an AI voice agent verify dental insurance?

Yes. Dental-focused agents such as Callura and Third Voice check eligibility with dental insurers in real time. Insurers reliably return coverage, deductibles and maximums, but not always waiting periods or frequency limits.

Is real-time insurance verification the same as a cost estimate?

No. An eligibility check confirms coverage information. It isn’t a treatment estimate or a guarantee of payment.

Does Callura verify insurance during the call?

Yes. Callura checks eligibility through Stedi during the call, books the appointment in your PMS, and saves the result for your team.
