Best AI Call Answering Platforms for Clinics (2026 Comparison)

Callura
Callura

Slim Dental, the largest dental practice in Manhattan, gets about 1,500 calls a week across three offices. When we started working with them, the hard part wasn’t answering the phone. It was knowing that one of their doctors is in-network with Delta at one location but not the other, that certain specialists take a transfer instead of a booking, and that their kids’ practice has its own line and its own greeting.

That’s what “appointment scheduling across multiple locations” really means for a clinic. Plenty of AI tools can pick up a phone. Far fewer can put the right patient with the right provider, at the right location, in the system your team already uses, while the patient is still on the line.

Short answer: the best AI call answering platform for a clinic books directly into your practice management system or EHR during the call, follows each location’s providers and rules, reschedules and cancels, hands patients to your team when needed, and signs a BAA. For dental practices, that means a tool that names your PMS, such as Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft or Denticon, on its own website.

How we built this comparison

We checked each vendor’s own website on October 7, 2026, and only marked what the vendor says itself. We make Callura, and it’s included here, so we kept the rows to things you can verify yourself on each vendor’s site. A ✗ means we didn’t find it stated, not that the product can’t do it. Ask every vendor to show you.

Quick picks

  • Dental practices and groups that want booking and insurance checks in one call: Callura or Third Voice, the two whose sites say they verify eligibility during the call.
  • Dental practices that want published pricing: Viva or Third Voice.
  • Already on Weave or Dental Intelligence: their AI receptionists are add-ons to platforms you may already pay for. Check which PMS qualifies for direct booking.
  • Medical practices: MedCalls names the major medical EHRs.
  • Large multi-location groups: ask Callura, Arini, VoxHealth or Revmo to walk you through location and provider routing on your own schedule.

What “live in minutes” usually means

Several platforms promise you can go live in minutes. Read closely. On most developer platforms, such as Retell, Plivo and Floo, “live” means a working test agent you can call, not one that’s booking real patients into your PMS. That’s a real accomplishment, but it isn’t the same thing.

Vendors that define “live” as taking real patient calls give timelines in days to weeks. Viva describes a day-by-day week ending with “let the phones ring.” MedCalls says “go live in just days.” Arini says one to two weeks for a Dentrix setup. Here’s what Callura’s under-one-week setup actually involves. When you compare, ask every vendor three questions:

  1. When you say “live”, do you mean a test call or real patients booking into our PMS?
  2. What do you need from us, and how much of our team’s time does it take?
  3. Can you show us a booking appear in our schedule during the demo?

What to look for, especially with more than one location

  • Location and provider rules. Can it book Dr. A only at the uptown office on Tuesdays? Can it tell which providers take which insurance at which location?
  • Writing to your real schedule. A booking that lands in a separate calendar for your team to re-enter isn’t direct booking.
  • Handing off well. Urgent calls and anything that needs judgment should go to your team, by your rules.
  • Insurance on the call. “Do you take my insurance?” is one of the first questions new patients ask. See which AI voice agents verify insurance during the call.
  • A BAA. Patient calls include protected health information. See which AI receptionists sign a BAA.

Where Callura fits

Callura is an AI virtual assistant for dental practices and med spas, often called an AI receptionist. It reads live availability and books, reschedules and cancels in Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Denticon and NexHealth, verifies insurance eligibility on the call, transfers to your team by your rules, and answers 24/7. Slim Dental runs it across all three Manhattan locations, and Callura generates over $1M a year for the practice. Pricing is quoted per practice, and BAAs are available.

We built Callura because the front desk shouldn’t have to choose between the patient in front of them and the phone ringing behind them.

If you run a dental practice or group with more than one location, and you want an assistant that learns your providers, your rules and your insurance plans the way a great new hire would, you’re exactly who we want to work with.
